Head and neck tumours are among the most common cancers in Germany. Oral cavity and throat cancer in particular have been increasingly diagnosed in recent years.
Highly specialised care
Our clinic offers the entire spectrum of surgical treatment options for patients with malignant diseases of the head and neck. Our highly qualified team has above-average surgical expertise: from planning and execution to post-operative care. In addition to healing as completely as possible, we focus on maintaining or restoring function and aesthetics.
We are established as a centre for head and neck tumours (KHT) and are part of the University Oncology Centre Regensburg (UCC-R). We work closely with the associated clinics and institutes. The creation of treatment concepts, planning and carrying out the sometimes complex surgical treatment of head and neck tumours are central focal points of our clinic.
Customised therapy concepts
If we detect a head and neck tumour in the course of our comprehensive diagnostics, we develop an individually tailored treatment concept for the patient in our interdisciplinary tumour consultation. The expertise and know-how of specialised colleagues from radiotherapy, haematology/oncology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, neurosurgery, diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, pathology and, if necessary, palliative and pain therapy are incorporated. Our colleagues in psycho-oncology, social services, nutritional medicine and pastoral care also support patients at every stage of their treatment if required.
Tissue-sparing laser surgery
The use of microscopically controlled laser surgery and minimally invasive approaches enables a tissue-sparing procedure for head and neck tumours. Various laser systems are used in our clinic (e.g. KTP and CO2 laser).
Reconstructive head and neck surgery
We have a large repertoire of microvascular tissue transplants as well as pedunculated and local reconstruction procedures available for functional restoration after major tumour removal.
Customised pain and palliative therapy
If, despite all our efforts, the disease cannot be cured, we care for our patients with head and neck tumours in close cooperation with our colleagues in palliative and pain medicine, internal oncology, psycho-oncology and regional hospice facilities.
