Some diseases are caused by an overactivation or malfunction of the body's own defence system (autoimmune diseases). This malfunction leads to persistent inflammation and, in severe cases, to organ damage. In addition to joints, muscles and internal organs, the skin can also be affected.
In our autoimmune consultations, we work closely with other specialist departments to treat patients with diseases in which the skin is damaged by the body's own cells or antibodies. These include in particular autoimmune bullous (blistering) diseases such as bullous pemphigoid or pemphigus vulgaris and collagenoses such as cutaneous lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis and systemic scleroderma.
Various therapeutic approaches are used which aim to rebalance the immune system of those affected in order to stop the inflammatory reaction.
