Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Dysgnathia and jaw malformations

Surgical treatment of jaw malformations (malocclusion) is employed when an orthodontic treatment is not sufficient to achieve a good functional and aesthetic result. Close cooperation with the colleagues from the Orthodontics clinic is a prerequisite for the best possible care.

So-called “orthognathic surgery” is used to correct misalignments of the jaws in relation to each other and misalignments of the jaws in relation to the skull. These misalignments can be congenital or caused by accidents or illnesses.

Individual consultation

Our goal is to correct jaw misalignments, improve the chewing function of our patients and create a harmonious facial shape. We provide individual consultation to determine the right treatment concept for you. This is important, as there are numerous surgical options.

Surgical methods

All surgical procedures take place in the oral cavity so that there are no visible scars. To relocate the upper jaw, we perform an osteotomy in the "Le Fort I" level with a subsequent "down fracture". These surgical methods enable a three-dimensional correction of the upper jaw and thus the entire facial skeleton. The lower jaw procedure is done using the classic Obwegeser-Dal Pont method.

Use of mini plates

We guarantee the best possible care of our patients due to our careful surgical procedure with state-of-the-art technology. Mini-osteosynthesis plates made of titanium are used during the procedure to hold the individual bone segments in place. These plates are very well tolerated. At the request of the patient, they can also be removed after approximately six months.
