Conservative Dentistry and Periodontology

Preventive Dentistry

We preserve your teeth and ensure a healthy periodontium (periodontology).  Periodontitis is the most common disease of the periodontium. Gum pockets can deepen as a result of bacterial gum inflammation, the jawbone can recede so that the tooth root loses its support. Regular check-ups at the dentist, good oral hygiene and preventive measures can prevent these gum infections.

Our preventive dentistry specialises in the following areas:

  • Caries and periodontitis prophylaxis
  • Professional teeth cleaning
  • Fissure sealants
  • Treatment of hypersensitive teeth
  • We examine your teeth and evaluate your findings as the basis for successful caries and periodontitis prophylaxis. This includes inspecting your teeth, checking their sensitivity and - if necessary - taking x-rays. Special examinations help us to detect diseases of the teeth and gums at an early stage and to assess your individual risk of disease. This allows us to customise the prophylaxis measures to your individual needs and prevent the development of caries or tooth loss due to periodontitis at an early stage.

  • PDC is an effective tool for preventing and avoiding diseases of the teeth and gums and complements dental and oral care at home. The tooth surfaces and interdental spaces are carefully cleaned by specialised dental hygienists.

A final polish and fluoridation additionally protect the teeth from harmful influences such as sugar and acids. We also provide personalised advice on the correct use of oral hygiene aids (dental floss, interdental brushes, etc.) and a healthy dental diet.

In combination with the routine check-up twice a year, your teeth are optimally protected.

  • Fissure sealing is a non-invasive treatment method to prevent caries in particularly vulnerable areas of the teeth, especially in the chewing surfaces of the posterior teeth (fissures).

Deep fissures or pits are filled with a thin layer of flowable plastic and thus sealed.

Fissure sealing can be used on milk teeth (paediatric dentistry) as well as on permanent teeth.

  • Possible causes of cold or pain sensitive teeth:

    • High acidic diet
    • Poor brushing habits over a long period of time
    • Overstressing the teeth.

    Treatment

Depending on the individual findings, the application of varnishes or gels is suitable. Filling may also be necessary for extensive hard substance defects in the neck of the tooth. These are known as wedge-shaped defects. Treatment in our consultation hours is supplemented on a case-by-case basis with dietary advice, oral hygiene instructions and the recommendation of desensitising mouthwashes or toothpastes for home use.
