Psycho-Oncology

A team of psycho-oncologists is also available to help patients and their families cope with the cancer diagnosis and treatment. The psycho-oncologists are available to all cancer patients and deal with all kinds of psychological problems, stress and anxiety.

  • The psycho-oncology service provides a constant, professional contact for patients and their families throughout their treatment. As a link between doctors, nurses, patients and relatives, they offer acute help in crisis situations, support in coping with the disease and provide relief through psychological counselling.

Regular discussions help patients and their families to develop strategies for coping with anxiety and expressing their feelings so that they can better cope with the stress of treatment. Cancer affects the entire personal environment, which is why we also talk to relatives and support communication between all those involved.

Child and Family Counselling

Cancer always affects the whole family. We offer expert advice to mothers and fathers with cancer and their children at the paediatric and family consultation at Regensburg University Hospital.

  • Firstly, we advise parents on how to talk to their children about their cancer and the fears and worries that come with it. We work together to find solutions for organising everyday life with the children under these special circumstances.

Secondly, we answer children's and young people's questions about cancer and their parent's treatment in an age-appropriate way. Children also have the opportunity to express their own emotional needs, independent of their parents' concerns.

Parent counselling or parent coaching can take the form of a one-off meeting, regular support or crisis intervention. Children and young people can be counselled and supported both individually and with their parents in the form of a family meeting.

We also offer an open group programme for children aged six to twelve. At the same time, there is a psychologically supervised group programme for the accompanying adults for exchange and discussion.
