Neurosurgery

Spinal cord surgery

As a maximum care university centre, we offer the full range of surgical treatment for all types of spinal cord disease:

  • Tumour-related diseases (e.g. ependymoma)
  • Acquired injuries
  • Congenital malformations (e.g. Chiari malformations)
  • Vascular malformations (e.g. arterio-venous fistula, AVMs)
  • It is important to us that the surgical treatment is embedded in a comprehensive and interdisciplinary treatment concept and that your needs can be specifically addressed. We therefore work closely with neighbouring departments/clinics at the highest university level: Centre for Neuroradiology, Clinic for Neurology, Clinic for Trauma Surgery, Pain Therapy, Physiotherapy, Clinic for Radiotherapy, Clinic for Neuropathology, Clinic for Paediatrics, etc.

This ensures that we combine all the necessary diagnostic, surgical, conservative and rehabilitative components into the best possible treatment plan for you. The aim is to create an individual treatment and aftercare plan for each patient.

We therefore offer you holistic and multimodal therapy at first hand, embedded in the supra-regional specialist centres of the University Hospital Regensburg,

  • The latest and most gentle microsurgical techniques are always used for surgical treatment. It goes without saying that we always use the most modern technical support procedures to make the operation as safe and precise as possible. In addition to high-resolution surgical microscopes, techniques such as intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM), neuronavigation and robotics are routinely used to monitor and visualise the spinal cord tracts and their function during surgery.

The cooperation between our neurosurgical clinic and the relevant specialist departments at the Regensburg University Hospital enables us to provide comprehensive and optimised care for children of all ages as well as older patients and/or patients with multiple illnesses. Outpatient consultation, surgical treatment and outpatient aftercare are carried out by the same team of experts to ensure seamless and personalised care for our patients in the outpatient and inpatient setting.

  • As the only university centre in our region offering a full range of medical services, we also offer a comprehensive range of scientific services in the field of spinal and spinal cord research, giving you access to the most advanced and innovative treatments.

    Our main focus:

    • Evaluation of gentle and minimally invasive personalised therapies
    • Treatment and management of intradural spinal and spinal cord tumours
    • Evaluation of novel intra- and perioperative technical support procedures
