Orthodontics
Orthodontics for children and adolescents
When it comes to identifying, preventing and treating misaligned teeth and jaws, our orthodontics department is the right place for you. We treat patients of all ages in our polyclinic. We use removable or fixed braces to correct misaligned teeth and jaws.
Orthodontic examination: Recommended for all children
The right time for orthodontic treatment depends on the type of tooth or jaw misalignment. An orthodontic examination is recommended for all children at the latest when all milk teeth have come through. In the case of anomalies such as the premature loss of milk teeth or an open bite, orthodontic treatment can be carried out from the age of four.
If treatment is necessary, we will arrange an appointment for a detailed initial examination and diagnosis.
Depending on the case and age, we will need
- a panoramic tomographic scan
- a lateral cephalometric scan
- Impressions of both jaws
- Photographs for further analysis
Early consultation pays off
We can detect and treat dental and jaw anomalies in children at an early stage. Treatable malocclusions can occur in the primary dentition and can be corrected with simple orthodontic devices. Bad habits, such as thumb-sucking, can also lead to deviations in the position of the teeth and jaws. Specialist advice costs you nothing and can often save your child from having to undergo more extensive treatment later.
Treatment usually starts between the ages of nine and eleven
Early treatment may be recommended as soon as the first permanent molars have come through. However, most regular treatment starts between the ages of nine and eleven. The extent of the anomaly will determine whether the costs are covered by statutory health insurance.
